To the editor:

I completed my doctorate in 1980. At that time, we had an option to write the results of our study in journal format and then include a detailed and comprehensive review of literature. Faculty provided that option because few graduates converted their traditionally written dissertations into manuscripts for publication. I chose the journal format option and, shortly after defending my dissertation, submitted a manuscript for publication. The manuscript was accepted for publication in Nursing Research, making me the first of my class to publish the dissertation. I think it is a great option.
